1. What if it was a requirement that every church member had to take evangelism training before becoming a member? What if all present members were required to annually take a refresher course on evangelism? What if everyone in the church knew how to present the gospel in a clear and cogent manner?
2. What if every church had two paid staff positions… a pastor and an evangelist? If a church can hire a second person it is normally a youth or music person. Why not make that “hire” an evangelist. It is kind of like a bird with one wing if a church only has a pastor.
3. What if there was some kind of accountability in place for evangelism in the church. My dad was a missionary in Africa and it was part of their practice to call out the names of every church member in the Sunday morning service. The member then was required to stand and give a number. The number was the total of people they witnessed to that week. That high level of accountability is probably too much for most of us… but it definitely sent a signal to that African church that evangelism was important.
What if… (dream on).
