I cringed as I stood behind another believer checking into a hotel for a conference. It was obvious he was with the group and at least identified with this Christian convention. Yet, he was overtly offensive in the way he was treating the receptionist behind the desk.

Christians can be really obnoxious. That directly contradicts the clear instruction of scripture:

  • Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved. (I Corinthians 10:32-33).

Notice that these verses are addressing the topic of evangelism. While a grace filled life should be the trait of the believer… it is especially important in spreading the gospel. It is a cop-out to blame the hardness of the sinners heart when the real problem is us.

We can’t expect to have a listening ear when like Peter we have chopped it off.
