Pizza Hut vs. Dominos

Pizza Hut originally had a business model that meant you had to go to their restaurant and sit down at a table to order a pizza. Along came Dominos with a different approach. They said, “We deliver.” It doesn’t matter where you are; we’ll bring your pizza to you.

Many churches have the Pizza Hut model when it comes to evangelism. They suggest that if people want to hear the gospel they need to show up at a church building from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Sunday morning. Otherwise, they are out of luck. They are saying, “you have to be in our “restaurant” if you want pizza.”

Jesus had a better idea. He told his disciples to “deliver.” We call it missions. We don’t expect everyone from around the world to come to our church in order to hear the gospel. We send missionaries. We also should not expect people in our neighborhood to go to our building on Sunday. While they are most welcome, we should strategize to “deliver.”
